NMCN plc: South West Water Framework: Commercial Manager (7 months)
Having successfully won the Tier 1 Capital Works Framework for South West Water, NMCN had in the pipeline two projects within the South West Water/Bournemouth Water operational area. These flagship projects will create resilience for the future drinking water supply. Engaged as Commercial Manger when the planning process was completed, to be commercially responsible for the outline design phase, procurement negotiations with key process partners, internal governance and target cost setting.
 
Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Ltd: Major Projects, Hinkley Point C: Commercial Manager (9 months)
As part of the Hinkley Point C works, Balfour Beatty were awarded the marine works and tunnelling contract. Engaged as the Commercial Manager for the £245M tunnelling section of the wider £665M marine works. Managed the team of 8 quantity surveyors; reviewed subcontracts; reviewed and approved the subcontract variations (compensation events); and undertook extensive project reporting and forecasting. Succeeded in ensuring the correct contract administration was adhered to, with an increased level of accuracy.
 
NMCN plc: South West Water Framework: Senior Quantity Surveyor (2 years 3 months)
A specialist MEICA contractor, NMCN were Tier 2 partners on the SWW Framework, and were undertaking a process of expansion. Engaged as a Senior Quantity Surveyor on their £7M flagship project. Reviewed the procurement process; rewrote and redesigned the contract/subcontract administration forms; delivered training to management; directly managed a number of projects; and drafted or approved all contracts/subcontracts issued under the NEC3 & NEC4 frameworks. Succeeded in commercially delivering projects on time, with additional profit margin. Succeeded in helping improve their capabilities such that they were awarded the SWW Tier 1 Capital Works Framework (including design, civils, MEICA & building).
 
Hydroline Solutions Ltd: Tendering Process: Estimator (6 months)
Hydroline Solutions were a small specialist contractor making a name for themselves in the water industry who needed assistance with tendering a high volume of projects. Engaged as an Estimator to review the tendering process. Analysed existing procedures; designed a new tendering method (in Excel) based on the specific strengths of the company; introduced a tender tracking system; and managed the new process. Succeeded in delivering a system that quickly and accurately priced tenders, and increased the win rate to 30%, including winning a significant £1.5M project.
 
GR Engineering Services (UK) Ltd: Drakelands Tungsten Mine Development: Commercial Manager (2 years)
On behalf of Wolf Minerals (an Australian metals exploration company), GR Engineering Services (also an Australian company) were the Engineer, Procure & Construct (“EPC”) main contractors for the delivery of a new £85M mineral processing plant. Selected as Commercial Manager to oversee the commercial side of the UK contract. Developed standard contract/subcontract management processes; drafted contract work packages; administered in excess of £35M of subcontracts and payments in accordance with UK regulations; and progressed all subcontracts to Final Account status. Succeeded in delivering the fourth largest Tungsten Mine in the world, on time and within budget.
 
Interserve Construction Ltd: New Road Bridge: Senior Quantity Surveyor (9 months)
Interserve were part way through the installation of a new road bridge over the A38 on behalf of Highways England, when their Senior Quantity Surveyor had to move to an alternative project. Engaged as a Senior Quantity Surveyor to complete the project. Reviewed all the works to date; certified outstanding payments; priced, submitted and agreed all outstanding variations; complied internal and external reporting; and managed the commercial functions through to completion. The project was successfully completed, demolishing the existing bridge and constructing the new road bridge, on time and within forecast cost.
 
Morrison Utility Services Ltd: Internal Business Unit Integration: Commercial Manager (2 years 10 months)
Having been awarded two overlapping geographical term contracts, Morrison Utility Services wanted to introduce an internal business unit to undertake and self-deliver the previously subcontracted works. Selected as Commercial Manager to assess customer needs and develop solution. Reviewed existing nine subcontractors, their rates, staff, resources and capabilities; engaged with customers; produced business plan; gained approval from the Board of Directors; interviewed and assembled team of 20; TUPE of staff; agreement of KPIs; designed IT infrastructure; and managed implementation. Succeeded in deploying a fully functioning business unit.
 
Veolia Water Outsourcing Ltd: Project Allenby Connaught: Quantity Surveyor (6 months)
Subsequent to their main contractor ceasing trading, Veolia Water elected to complete the works directly. Selected as a Security Cleared Quantity Surveyor to oversee the integration of the businesses. Analysed existing systems and interfaces; engaged with key stakeholders; assessed requirements of the work streams (capital works and repair & maintenance); developed migration strategy; and oversaw implementation phase. Succeeded in capturing all outstanding value and integrating the works into the clients business.
 
Morrison Utility Services Ltd: Term Contract Final Account: Senior Quantity Surveyor (2 years 8 months)
On completion of a 5 year Term Contract, Morrison Utility Services were owed in excess of £10M by their client. Engaged as a Senior Quantity Surveyor to co-lead the team tasked with the final account. Cross checked the database of projects; reconciled outstanding payments; led the team of 5 people; sourced backup hard copy information; attended Client facing meetings; agreed revised valuations; recorded database amendments; and invoiced final agreed amounts. Succeeded in reducing the outstanding debt to zero.
 
5th Exmouth Sea Scouts: Services & Scout Hut Redevelopment: Consultant (2 years plus)
With an ageing building and poor infrastructure, the 5th Exmouth Sea Scouts are improving their facilities. Voluntarily appointed as Commercial Manager to deliver the redevelopment. Specified the requirements; liaised with the service providers; liaised with the architect and designers; costed the project; adminstered and managed the contract works. Currently underway and succeeding to meet our strategy plan targets.
